I have to talk to them? Not shoot them? Not even taze them? I'm sure some of the U.S cops would be shocked to hear that.

Sounds like some majority picking on the minority... Save it's not humans doing it on others of their own kind this time around.

Yes, there might be some anti-racism and equal rights ideology undertones in this story...

RANDOM THOUGHT.

... come to think of it, a war hammer in space would probably be a rather effective weapon due to being a blunt weapon/piercing weapon, depends if it has a spike as the other side of the head for the purpose of piercing plate armor. Energy shields, to my knowledge, are very... incapable of mitigating or eliminating slow, compared to cars or bullets, but deadly force like a hammer blow.

... kinda iconic though, if used.

True, that is a very random thought.
Wouldn't hand-to-hand combat also be very effective? One well aimed punch or kick to break someones neck?

unarmed combat and hand to hand combat that includes knives are something that seem to never really go out of style. Almost all military have some form of hand to hand combat course as mandatory if I remember right. Handy for when you're unarmed and without a weapon so that sorta makes a good bit of sense.

Melee weapons like a warhammer are sort of archaic but still effective since protection against ballistics and energy weapons aren't quite that effective against protecting against, say, being hit hard by a sledgehammer.

But in the off chance they don't work...
